Purgatori 2014 Vol 1

Purgatori: Hell and Back – Volume 1

Bursting from Dynamite’s Chaos Universe, Purgatori is here and making her presence known. In the first volume of this series, first published in 2014, Purgatori has her work cut out for her.

Born a slave in ancient Alexandria, Purgatori never thought she would be back on her knees – but this time it’s a little different, because she’s up against Lucifer himself! The winged goddess learns that the Devil likes to play games, but he will play dirty…

Stripped of her powers, and sent on an epic quest to find the Chalice of Regeneration, Purgatori needs to reach her goal before her enemy can get there first. Can she outwit Lucifer, or will she be his prisoner for all eternity?

Crafted by the creative talents of Aaron Gillespie (Lady Demon, The Bionic Man) and Javier Garcia Miranda (Aliens, Vampirella), Purgatori is ready to cause mayhem.

Don’t forget our Director’s Cut, which comes with an exclusive 2D animated cover and the option to turn text on and off – so you can see the art in all its glory!

Created in 1994 by Brian Pulido and artist Steve Hughes, and first appearing in Evil Ernie Revenge, Purgatori has made many appearances over the years. In our most recent visit from the crimson goddess, we saw her take on Vampirella – but now she’s ready to take centre stage.

After a celebrated run in 2014 with Aaron Gillespie (Lady Demon, The Bionic Man) and Javier Garcia Miranda (Aliens/Vampirella) at the helm, audiences fell in love with the Queen of Darkness. Want to see where it all began? Click here.

In this all-new Purgatori, legendary horror writer Ray Fawkes (Intersect, The People Inside, Underwater) and artist Alvaro Sarraseca (Vampirella vs Purgatori, Turok) have teamed up to bring Purgatori to life for a new audience, and for the first time in her own right.

Meet Purgatori – the Vampire Goddess with a dark soul, and an even darker sense of humour

Being born into Ancient Egypt with the blood of a fallen angel in your veins isn’t easy – but somehow, Purgatori has made it work for her. Escape slavery? Check. Achieve immortality? Check. Swap some blood and become a demon Vampire Goddess? Check. Now, all that’s left to do is spread her wings (quite literally), taste some souls, and she can start living her best demonic life. Apart from the fact that, well… it’s never quite that simple.

People can be a real pain in the neck...

Fresh from her most recent appearance in Vampirella vs Purgatori, in this issue we see a different side to Purgatori’s usual wicked ways. In Witches Get Stitches, we find Purgatori taking a step back from the drama to find time for a little self-care. We all need a bit of zen, right? Well, so does a centuries-old Vampire Goddess. Having trekked across the world after her almighty battle with her arch-nemesis Lilith, Purgatori definitely needs a break – and what better place than a monastery…?

Settling into a calming temple with some new monk buddies (who she definitely hasn’t threatened…), Purgatori needs time to get rid of Lilith’s mind-worm, which she picked up on the battlefield. She also needs to drown out the screams of the souls she has turned into snacks, and who now live in her head. But all is about to be violently destroyed… can’t a goddess get any peace?

It’s no surprise that Purgatori has a long, long list of enemies – wouldn’t you, if you’d lived since the pyramids were shiny and new? So, while all Purgatori may want is to have some R & R, an attack is always on the cards.

Faced with body-snatching witches, Purgatori needs to think quickly – or risk being at the mercy of her latest foes.
